« Voix de Femmes » is about feminine revolt and resistance. Inspired by Antigone by Henry Bauchau and Sophocles, it invites the spectator to a journey through the eyes of the archetypical character of Antigone. The text extracts are her memories. The chants are the cries of every revolted woman.
Determined to keep her two brothers from fighting, Antigone returns to Thebes. There, in her little house, she looks after the sick and wounded of the war and then begs in the Agora so as to be able to take care of them. She cries. She cries despair and hope.
I can do nothing no more, I want nothing more,
I have nothing more to want. I can hear the airy chant,
which probably rises as simply as the wind blows
through the blades of grass
and through the tree branches.
This chant does not beg, nor is it asking for anything
and as I listen to it I’m no longer that Antigone
who wanted so desperately to obtain something.
The chant suffices, it may suffice to be within it,
little does it matter,
for this chant that is sang by no one,
it is by everyone that it´s heard.
